Bank holiday fun returns to the seaside

Bank Holiday Stock Car Racing at Sunny Skegness and Home Radio Sports expert Marilyn Sharp was there to follow Newark’s very own car 63.

Over the Bank Holiday weekend the sun shone down on Skegness Stadium which had a busy race schedule for both Sunday and Monday.

Formulas racing included Brisca V8 Stock cars, Junior Rods, Heritage F2 stock cars, Rookie bangers and 2L saloon cars.

With a good crowd enjoying the sunshine and operating to current Covid regulations racing commenced on the Sunday 30th May at 1pm. The Brisca V8’s were racing over the whole weekend for the National Pairs Championship where higher grade drivers are paired with lower grade drivers and their points from each race are totalled up over the whole weekend. The pair with the highest tally at the end become the annual pairs champions. Monday was also a World Championship qualifying round.

Dave was paired with blue grade driver Rob Scriven and they had a good start with Dave gaining 11th place and Rob in 12th. Heat 2 looked promising but unfortunately Rob had to retire with damage to his car but Dave gained 8th place. In the final Dave was just out of the points but Rob came 10th and all was looking good for the Grand National until Dave had to retire for the rest of the weekend with mechanical problems. Unfortunately this meant missing out on gaining any World Qualifying points in the Monday races.

Work is now being carried out to get the car ready for the next meeting at the newly refurbished Odsall Stadium in Bradford on Saturday 12th June.
